A Legacy Forged in Valor. The GRENADIERS Regiment carries a storied legacy and the 9 GRENADIERS (Mewar) embody its finest traditions. Tracing its roots to the Mewar state forces and the Mewar Bhupal Infantry formed in 1932, the Battalion became part of the Indian Army in 1951, re-designated as 9 GRENADIERS (Mewar) in 1954. From the battlefields of World War-II to the Hyderabad Police Operation, the battalion has etched its name in courage and sacrifice. Today, stationed along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Arunachal Pradesh, they continue to uphold the GRENADIERS’ motto of Sarvada Shaktishali—Always Powerful—with pride and purpose.

Serving Beyond the Call: For the 9 GRENADIERS (Mewar), duty extends beyond securing the Nation’s frontiers. In the remote villages of Arunachal Pradesh, they have embraced the role of catalysts for change. Through initiatives like Operation Sadbhavana and Operation Samaritan, they have worked hand-in-hand with local communities, fostering trust and creating opportunities.
Governor Parnaik lauded these efforts, noting how the outreach has “touched hearts and inspired hope” among the youth. Their contributions to the Vibrant Villages Programme have further strengthened the bonds Indian Army share with the people of Arunachal, proving that the GRENADIERS are not just soldiers but partners in progress. These initiatives reflect the heart of our Regiment: a commitment to serve, uplift, and unite.

Standing at Vivekananda Hall, Raj Bhavan, Colonel Saurabh Sharma and his team felt the weight of this recognition—not as a culmination, but as a call to continue serving with the same zeal. The 9 GRENADIERS (Mewar) and the GRENADIERS Regiment remain steadfast in their mission to protect India’s sovereignty while nurturing the communities that stand with us.
A Salute to Our Brotherhood: This Governor’s Unit Citation belongs to every GRENADIER who has poured their heart into this mission.
