TRIBUTE TO LT GEN YOGI TOMAR, PVSM (RETD) OF 4 & 14 GRENADIERS
I deeply regret to inform you about the sad demise of IC–6615 Lt Gen YS Tomar, PVSM (Retd) on 12 Apr 2025 at his native place Dehradun due to old age of 93 years. He was born on 02 Jun 1933 and commissioned into the 4th Battalion on 13 Dec 1953. He attended Staff Collate at Camberley (UK). He commanded the 14th Battalion from Nov 1968 to Nov 1970 and was Military Adviser to the Indian High Commissioner in Malaysia. He held important command and staff appointments, was GOC 57 Mtn Div and later GOC 1 Corps. He was Commandant the College of Combat and IMA and was Adjutant General. He was awarded the PVSM as a GOC in 1982. He was Colonel of the Regiment from Nov 1982 to Jun 1991. He took great interest in the development of the Memorial Hostel, the Hari Mandir and the New Drill Square. The state of Regimental funds improved due to the strict economy measures he imposed. He introduced the Black Safa, the Scarf and Kamarband and wearing of leather belts by ORs. He initiated the policy of visits by young officers to recruiting areas. He had the Regimental song composed. He retired on 30 June1991 and settled in Dehradun. During his Colonelcy, Col SK Gupta and Brig MS Raza, Brig VP Airy, MVC, Brig HK Trivedi, Brig Naginder Singh and Brig Hamir Singh,VrC commanded the Centre.
